A letter to the editor (LTE) of the Livingston Daily
Now that Mike Rogers is winding down his 14 years in Congress, let us not forget his biggest accomplishment: being part of the ruling elite that more than tripled the national debt.
Back in 2001 when he entered Congress, the debt was around $5.8 trillion. It is now more than $18 trillion; that's a 300 percent-plus increase. What a legacy he leaves behind.
Has your home value increased 300 percent since 2001? Has your income increased more than 300 percent since 2001? Has your IRA or 401(k) increased that much over that period of time?
Please remember, Mr. Rogers, that your great-grandchildren will be paying down your out-of-control spending just like ours will. For the rest of us, I suggest we think long and hard before voting for career politicians. They don't seem to handle our money very well.
