Marco RubioWhat is RetakeOurGov all about?  This quote from Senator Marco Rubio* aptly describes us:

“[The Tea Party Movement] is a grassroots movement of everyday people who will hold their leaders and the people they help elect accountable. I think that’s an extraordinarily positive development in American politics, and [it] brings us closer to the essence of the republic that our founders dreamt of.”

RetakeOurGov are patriots just like you who believe that:

Government is too big, arrogant, and unresponsive…

Financial sanity and personal accountability needs restoring…

Our personal liberty and economic freedom should be determined by…

WE THE PEOPLE…   not WE THE GOVERNMENT…

We want our GREAT COUNTRY BACK!

IF YOU AGREE, PLEASE JOIN US!

We get things done and have some fun:

  • Monthly meetings are short, informative, and motivational
  • Group outings at county, state, and national levels
  • Events and projects to help elect desirable candidates
  • Learn about the political process and participate in it
  • Raise funds to support our mission

RetakeOurGov is a Tea Party group of non-partisan folks from throughout our great country and is uniquely registered as a Political Action Committee (PAC), providing us with a nationwide reach in our electoral influence.  We are based in Hartland, Michigan and have informative action oriented monthly meetings every month.  We attract visitors from throughout southeast Michigan and members throughout America.

You’ll feel right a home associating with our group because 99% of us have never participated in anything like this before but our common concern is the direction our country is headed.  We want smaller more efficient government, less spending, and more personal liberty and economic freedom.  We believe we cannot continue to pile mountains of debt on our children and grandchildren.

Act II of the Tea Party Movement

Act 1 was the awakening of freedom-loving Americans who wanted their great country back based on its founding principles outlined in the U.S. Constitution.  The first step was to elect like-minded Statesmen and get rid of the power hungry career politicians who believe that big government knows best about what is good for us.

Act II begins with holding our elected officials ACCOUNTABLE!  It’s now time for the political process to prioritize the agenda, define the objective, set goals, and VOTE ACCORDINGLY.  RetakeOurGov will be there to question with boldness and monitor targeted elected officials.  If they talk the talk, but do not walk the walk, we’ll VOTE THEM OUT IN THE PRIMARY OR THE GENERAL ELECTION!

Footnote

*In a three-way race, TEA Party backed Marco Rubio (R) defeated Democrat Kendrick Meek and Independent Charlie Crist in Florida's 2010 Senate race.  Rubio collected 49%, Meek 20%, and Crist 30%.  As a Tea Partier you should be interested to know that Crist, the former Republican Governor of Florida ran as an Independent when he determined he could not beat the conservative Rubio in the Republican Primary.  Crist, a RINO (Republican In Name Only), also backed by the Republican establishment, decided to skip the primary and run in the general election, hoping his center-left policies would siphon off enough votes from Rubio and Meek to win the Senate seat.  Florida's electorate soundly rejected the message promoted by Crist.

Crist's strategy to run as an Independent illustrates two key points of concern to Tea Party activists.  First, the Republican establishment frequently favors center-left RINOs over true conservatives.  In other words, the establishment tends to favor RINO values over TEA Party values.  This blatant favoritism has tarnished the brand identity of the Republican Party.  Because of this loss of identity, many voters view the Republican Party as the Democrat-lite Party, rather than the party of smaller government.  Second, RINOs and other establishment backed candidates will run as independents or third-party candidates if they can't win in the Republican Primary.  Many on the right, from Republican Party hacks to talk radio hosts, admonish TEA Partiers against running or backing 3rd party candidates as this would split the conservative vote, thereby handing victory to the liberal Democrats.  It seems that their concerns are misplaced. They should deliver their warnings to the RINOs, not the TEA Partiers.

Update: Charlie Crist ended up endorsing Barack Obama in the 2012 Presidential General Election.
